Did We Create Menopause?
Not to sound like I'm trying to click bait anyone, but something just blew my mind.
I'm working on a course for my continuing education business on Environmental Health and Menopause. This course focuses on improving the health of females (starting at home with my wife and 4 daughters) everywhere. And while I'm not a female and do not practice in women's health, my certifications in functional medicine and my time over the past three years exploring environmental, food and medication factors on our metabolism and hormone health lends a different perspective that isn't often seen in our profession. Thus, the creation of this course for others to use and apply to females.
But here is what I found that blew my mind:
A few weeks ago I found that there is a direct correlation between NSAID use and muscle protein synthesis. It made me wonder how many MSK issues we see are from overuse of NSAIDs, especially in aging populations who have relied on these since their entrance into society.
DID YOU KNOW that NSAIDs are now (since at least 2021) known hormone disruptors, especially with estrogen and estrogen production/release?
This is HUGE for females everywhere. Especially for those who rely on NSAIDs for period pain.
Are we causing menopause when it shouldn't be occurring? Are we worsening menopause? How many more MSK issues (osteopenia, loss of muscle mass, hip/compression fxs, etc) are we causing in females because of the use of things like NSAIDs? Especially those things that we have deemed NORMAL PARTS OF AGING?
The more we know, the healthier we grow.
