The Cure for Cancer Is Right in Front of Us!
Despite decades of significant investments in cancer research, the disease persists at alarming rates. The primary reason we may never fully cure cancer is that its causes are deeply embedded in our everyday environment—through chemicals, pollutants, and lifestyle factors we often overlook. This is a huge problem.
But the problem runs even deeper than that......
The Financial Commitment to Fighting Cancer
Every year, billions are spent on cancer research. In the U.S. alone, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) allocates around $6 billion annually for cancer-related research. However, this immense funding fails to address the underlying environmental causes that contribute to the rising incidence of cancer. Despite the high research expenditure, the data has remained clear: cancer rates continue to rise in parallel with exposure to harmful chemicals and environmental pollutants ([How 3M Execs Convinced a Scientist the Forever Chemicals She Found in Human Blood Were Safe — ProPublica](https://www.propublica.org/article/3m-forever-chemicals-pfas-pfos-inside-story)
Much of the research focuses on genetics, targeted therapies, and medical treatments, yet many cancer-causing agents are external—pollutants like PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), which are chemicals commonly found in household items, industrial products, and drinking water. PFAS are linked to a variety of cancers, including kidney, liver, and testicular cancer (https://news.cancerresearchuk.org/2023/12/11/pfas-and-cancer-what-do-we-know-about-forever-chemicals/)) Chemicals are incredibly persistent in the environment (hence the term "forever chemicals") and accumulate in the body, leading to health risks, including cancer ([State alleges 3M chemicals caused cancer and infertility, alleges $5 billion in damage] (https://www.startribune.com/state-alleges-3m-chemicals-caused-cancer-and-infertility-alleges-5-billion-in-damage/458907243)) &(https://news.cancerresearchuk.org/2023/12/11/pfas-and-cancer-what-do-we-know-about-forever-chemicals/)) The irony deepens when you look at the corporate ties within cancer research organizations. For instance, 3M, a company known for its historical pollution of groundwater with cancer-causing chemicals like PFCs, has a prominent figure on the American Cancer Society’s board of directors. This individual is also the head of medical research for 3M. While the company has settled numerous lawsuits over its environmental contamination and the harmful effects of its products, including cancer risks. Executives have a significant influence on organizations meant to combat the very health issues their products exacerbate.
The Unspoken Conflict
This conflict of interest demonstrates how corporate influence in cancer research may distract from addressing the root causes of the disease—environmental and industrial pollutants. If the organizations leading the charge against cancer fail to address the toxins they themselves produce, we may never reach a true solution. The funding dedicated to treatment and research often overlooks prevention and environmental factors that contribute to cancer proliferation .
If we continue to use products that contain carcinogens and allow harmful chemicals to enter our environment, the true cure for cancer will remain elusive. Real progress must go beyond the laboratory and address the systemic, environmental causes of this pervasive disease.
The answer is in OUR hands. We simply have to CHOOSE not to partake of the things around us that are KNOWN TO CAUSE CANCER.
But, unfortunately, excuses abound. "How can I go without xyz cleaner? It makes cleaning so easy!" OR "You're telling me that I shouldn't store or microwave my food in plastic? It's so cheap and easy. I don't see the harm in it." OR, "you expect me to not use fabric softener? No way. It makes my clothes feel and smell so clean!"
We can choose healthier options, but its "too inconvenient", "too expensive", or "too" something else.
So here is a thought: think of all of the foods, drinks, products you WANT in your life and home, and then think of those you SHOULDN'T have in your life and home. Make a list. Cost compare. Then budget around those things. Adjust your life around it. Buy a new, cheaper home. Eat out less. Spend less on streaming.
Do you feel it? Do you feel the excuses flooding your mind? The truth is this: other than outdoor air quality (which we can choose to avoid by avoiding living in certain places) we can choose to ingest, store, clothe ourselves, etc with things that make us healthy or don't. These labs have already given us gobs of research showing KNOWN CARCINOGENS.
If we want to beat cancer, shouldn't we just simply do all we can to avoid these cancer-causing things, rather than perpetuating them by continuing to consume them?
Think about it.
